About Isla Holbox Info: 20 Years of Passion and Expertise in Mexico

From Insider Tip to a Lifelong Labor of Love

We’re glad you’re here! You might be wondering who is behind this travel guide and why we are so confident in sharing our advice on Isla Holbox. The answer is simple: we fell in love with the island over two decades ago. We are Christian and Margit, and this website is our personal love letter to this little paradise in the Gulf of Mexico.

Who We Are: Austrian Roots, Mexican Heart

¡Hola! My name is Christian, and I am from Graz, Austria – a beautiful city, though often quite cold. As a mechanical engineer, I value precision; as a web designer, I appreciate aesthetics. However, my true passion has always been long-term travel to sunny, faraway places.

This lifelong wanderlust brought Margit and me to Mexico for the first time in 2003. A year later, a friend’s insider tip led us to Isla Holbox, which was virtually unknown at the time. He spoke of a secluded island with no paved roads, just sand, sea, and laid-back vibes.

Our First Encounter (2004)

Back then, getting to Holbox felt like a real odyssey. But it was worth every mile. As promised, the island was incredibly quiet. Beyond the endless dreamy beaches, sandy streets with large puddles, and rattling golf carts, there were only a handful of small hotels, cozy restaurants, and a couple of tiny shops with limited supplies.

The best part? There were hardly any tourists and a level of tranquility that is rare to find today. It was love at first sight and the most relaxing vacation we had ever experienced. We have been coming back ever since.

Over the next 20 years, we enjoyed countless wonderful moments. We learned the language, discovered the culture, and built many lasting friendships. There were also some things that we could have done without. Anyone planning a trip to Holbox should know what they are getting into. That is exactly where we want to help.

Today, we combine our travel experience with professional web design and editorial work to create the most comprehensive Isla Holbox guide.
